24/07/08
a tale of Shaolin is a dance pantomime which tells the story of two lovers, scholar Tian Yuan and his beloved Su Shui. An encounter withe brutal bandits leaves Tian Yuan critically wounded, but Shaolin monk Hui Shan saves him with his medical skills.
the lovers are reunited but once again they encounter bandits. Su Shui is captured by the bandits, while a distraght Tian Yuan returns to Shaolin Temple. Determined to rescue Su Shui and take revenge on the bandits, Tian Yuan starts to learn martial arts.
several year slater, the bandits invade the central plains again. Tian Yuan, now a Buddhist, leads the martial monks in a heroic fight against the invaders.
the show features not only excellent Shaolin martial arts and epic battle scenes, but also a lyrical love story set against a poetic backdrop. the production promises to be a fresh treat for the senses.
ps. the male dancer has a very very strong back. he did a 'reverse bridge'. from standing up, n bends backwards, slowly lowering his knees, n ended up in the kneeling position.
but i think the SDT male dancer were better.
-i remembered a scene where he did a cross split jete in the air, whereby he is suppose to split in the air with his left leg in the front, then change to another jete in the air with the right leg in the air. total disappointment i wld say, he was barely in a split position. prolly 90 degress only =(
**the female dancer was quite good, (n she was very pretty la!) but she didnt show much of her techniques during the dance. the only thing i remembered she did was she did a Développé to the side, a perfect 180, then she turned her body facing the leg, did a back bent before running off
oh, she's got real lovely feet. haha.
her finale was more amazing, she came out, did a lil solo.
a Jeté, grand then a series of turnsm those tt ppl in the chinese dance will do, whereby they leans the body forward, n arms forming a straight line. i think she did at least 10 la. tt was amazing.
n there was this little boy who was damn cute la, both in his actions n skills
he did flips backwards, but supporting with his head.
CAN U BELIEVE IT!
i was holding my breathe each time he did it la
ouch!
the martial art dancers were GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOD~
their 'jian zi', 'hou kong fan' was so perfect la~
technically not all dancers were strong, maybe i expected a lil too much from these dance troupe. haha
*side note: they actually got Prime Minister Goh Chok Tong as their guest of honour la
n it was almost full house, on the first night
eye opener i would say
=)
